Congratulations to Dirk DeHaan and Susan Barclay on "Tide Head".
Nova Scotia to Oban, Scotland!

Congratulations to Craig and Barbara Johnston on "Sequoia".
Hawaii to Oregon ... up and over the Pacific High.

In 1998 we sized the tanks to allow enough diesel to power through the high when returning from Hawaii to San Francisco .... 160 gallons (now increased to 190).
Craig and Barbara "went green".

Congratulations to the crew of Alleghany, on there safe arrival in Horta.
Other notable offshore passages this spring/summer include Mark and Dot Hazlett, Mexico to the Marquesas; Jim Fair, Panama to Marquesas; Craig and Barbara Johnston, Mexico to Hawaii, bound for Portland; and Dirk and Susan DeHaan, Nova Scotia to Ireland.

This note just in from Alleghany's skipper.
Phil,
Thanks for you congratulations on Big Als Atlantic crossing. I have to say that I am very impressed with the 52s performance upwind but especially as the wind frees somewhat, she really picks up here skirts

You know of course that on the way from Norfolk we did three days in a row of 200 miles. All of those were done with the reefed main and staysail.

In the leg from Bermuda we sailed close hauled 90% of the trip but the last day we eased off a bit as the wind veered into the south at 20+knots. Again we were easily able to get over 200miles with just the main and staysail.

More importantly the design is both agile and easily managed. Under none of the conditions that we have encountered, has the helm been either heavy or unresponsive.

A joy to sail and the added bonus of no mechanical/repair issues what so ever!!

Thanks again,

Mark Lipkus
